Program Description
Thea Bowman Permanent Supportive Housing serves single adult men and women moving out of chronic homelessness as well as homeless veterans. This building was built less than two years ago and offers furnished units, a variety of community spaces, and resident engagement activities. This program will serve homeless community members in South King County.
Position Description
Resident Services Staff (RSS) provide excellent customer service and maintain the safety and security of the building. RSS offer outreach and community resources to residents; they also enforce program rules outlined in the resident lease. This position performs service-delivery based on the values inherent in Catholic Community Services’ mission, the principles of harm reduction, and the philosophy of ‘housing first’, honoring and respecting the dignity of each resident.
Responsibilities
Resident Engagement
- Create a welcoming environment for Thea Bowman PSH residents
- Provide crisis intervention and advocacy to men/women in a harm reduction program
- Explain and enforce building and program rules
- Maintain a safe and comfortable environment
- Execute safety protocols, i.e. walking resident floors and monitoring security cameras
Administrative Responsibilities
- Review and document interactions in electronic log
- Complete Incident Reports
- Complete and submit work orders to property management for residents
- Greet tenants and visitors, assuring they sign in properly and maintain the safety of the building.
General Responsibilities:
- Participate in staff meetings
- Contribute to and support a positive, team-oriented work environment; participate with other staff members in decision-making processes.
- Maintain cleanliness and order at staff area/front desk.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Job Conditions
This position requires the employee to work in an environment where there may be exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and other potentially infectious material. Other exposures could include cleaning supplies, bedbugs, chemicals involved in pest control, paint and other materials used in building maintenance, building temperature fluctuations, dust, noise, and odors. Working conditions include interruptions, crisis response, and regular interactions with individuals who are dealing with issues of chemical dependency and/or mental illness, or are experiencing anger or frustration.

- Able to hear telephone rings, phone conversation and face-to-face conversation, door bells and emergency alarms.
- Able to speak clearly in person and on the telephone.
- Able to hand write legibly.
- Vision that enables person to read normal size print and handwritten notes; and distance and peripheral vision than enables person to monitor living spaces and identify concerns that require staff response.
- Able to sit for sustained periods of time.
- Able to walk the entire building and ascend and descend stairs quickly to move from one floor to another in order to respond to emergency situations.
- Mobility/dexterity of hands/arms to enable keying into a unit or other locked area as well as using computers and other office equipment.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, and to work independently and as a team member.
- Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 20 pounds and occasionally up to 40 pounds.
- Regularly able to perform duties as assigned.
- Able to make independent decisions and apply sound judgment in performing job duties.
Minimum Qualifications
- Social service experience (minimum of six months).
- Demonstrate an understanding of trauma, mental illness, alcohol and drug use, and domestic violence.
- Skilled in problem-solving, crisis intervention and conflict mediation.
- Basic computer skills with ability to maintain up to date and meticulous records.
- Excellent oral and written communications
- Must have a reliable phone or voice mail service.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Ability to work independently in addition to working as a member of a team.
- Demonstrates the necessary attitudes, knowledge and skills to deliver culturally competent services and work effectively in multi-cultural situations.
- Support and uphold the mission, beliefs and values of Catholic Community Services.
Preferred Qualifications
- College level classes toward degree in Social Service.
- 1 -2 years previous work experience in a social service program.
