Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in a computer-related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:
- Four or more recent years of hands-on experience in data network design and management utilizing Cisco routers/switches, TCP/IP, VLANs, VPNs, and implementation in a multi-site environment.
- Demonstrated experience in the implementation, configuration, and administration of firewalls, wireless networks, and broadband services.
- Experience with Cisco Unified Wireless, including configuration of wireless LAN controllers, is desirable.
- Demonstrated PC proficiency.
- Strong project management skills.
- Working technical knowledge of current telecommunications practices, protocols, and principles.
- Experience with current and legacy voice, data, and video technologies, including data/voice/video communications, video conferencing, audio conferencing, wireless networking, cell phones, VoIP, and telephone switch operations is desirable.
- Experience with radio communications preferred.

- Must have a good driving record (less than six (6) active points on driving records at the application stage of the hiring process).

- Cisco certification is highly desirable.
- Additional computer certification(s) in related areas are desirable.
Evaluation of this position is based primarily on the performance of the following essential functions, which include, but are not limited to:

Network and Telecommunications System Administration:
- Install, configure, and maintain the Park District's data and voice networking systems, including data/voice/video/cellular services.
- Monitor all networks and central telecommunication systems for maximum availability and performance.
- Administer and manage network security, particularly firewalls and resource monitoring.
- Perform performance tuning and capacity planning activities.

Documentation and Problem Resolution:
- Create and maintain documentation for network configurations, processes, and service records.
- Assess malfunctions of network hardware/software and telecommunication systems, working towards quick resolutions.

Backup and Disaster Recovery:
- Perform routine backups and archival of system configurations to assist with disaster recovery efforts.

Interconnections and Collaboration:
- Establish and manage interconnections between other networks/entities (e.g., for Rangers).
- Coordinate with the Systems Administration Lead Technician and Building Trades division on networking infrastructure implementation and changes.

Technology Research and Vendor Evaluation:
- Research the latest technologies and evaluate vendor proposals and solutions.
- Monitor trends in data and voice systems, including video conferencing.
- Suggest new technologies for potential use in the park district.

User Training and Vendor Consultation:
- Train users and associates on networking, phones (including cellular/smartphones), voicemail, and video conferencing.
- Consult with outside vendors on all issues related to telecommunications, computers, hardware, software, and related matters professionally and promptly.

On-Call Technical Support:
- Provide on-call technical support, including weekends and evenings.
