Responsibilities
- Process and submit medical claims to insurance companies and payers accurately and in a timely manner.
- Review patient records for completeness and accuracy before billing.
- Utilize coding systems such as ICD-9 and ICD-10 to ensure proper coding of diagnoses and procedures.
- Manage accounts receivable by following up on unpaid claims and resolving any discrepancies.
- Maintain detailed records of all billing transactions, including payments received and outstanding balances.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify any discrepancies in patient records or billing information.
- Stay updated on changes in medical billing regulations, coding practices, and insurance policies.
- Assist in the preparation of reports related to billing activities as needed.
Experience
- Proven experience in medical billing or related field is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, coding (ICD-9, ICD-10), DRG, and medical collections is essential.
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and other medical billing software is a plus.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical skills for problem-solving.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
