JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/Objective
The Director of Training and Employee Development (DTED) is responsible for designing and overseeing the use of trainings systems and curriculum to assist employees to build skills to carry out their job duties. The DTED Is responsible for the assessment of employees’ competencies and identification of training and development needs to improve skills sets. This position actively searches, creatively designs, and implements effective methods for learning and enhancing performance and recognizing outstanding performance. The DTED maintains a consistent culture in the organization that learning is valued, necessary, and expected to further the organization’s mission and advance vision.
Essential Functions

- Provide leadership in the role of training that enhances and provides continuous improvement to personnel in the Program Department;
- Establish and lead the organization’s Training Committee;
- Develop and oversee Training Plan to ensure a comprehensive curriculum and coordinate training;
- Identify training and employee development needs and drive training initiatives and update and promote ongoing education;
- Develop and implement systems and protocols that monitor instructional quality and trainee learning, including, but not limited to, specific data collection instruments that show competency in learning, such as pre/post-test, survey, competency test, interview questions and other areas where monitoring occurs;
- Develop curriculum and materials utilizing a variety of training channels (media, role playing, discovery, etc.) to create highly effective training programs. Modify programs as needed;
- Ensure learning materials reflect best practices and emerging practices in service delivery, training trends, development;
- Develop and oversee the training frequency to ensure continuous opportunities for learning for employees;
- Ensure training materials comply with DMH, Division of DD, HIPAA, CARF, DOL and all other relevant federal, state, and local regulations;
- Work with leadership to develop additional training opportunities, including training for first time supervisors, leadership and other employee development initiatives as requested;
- Oversee the effectiveness of trainings by running reports in the record keeping system and make changes in training for improvement;
- Oversees the Volunteer Training program;
- Manage training calendar and ensure it is updated on the employee webpage;
- Maintain continuing education of assigned programs and courses; engage subject matter experts regularly to ensure training materials are current with legislative and other regulatory changes; explore best practices and make recommendations regarding curricula development and implementation.

Work Environment
Office with noise from office equipment, telephone, etc. and from on-site day program noise.
Physical Demands
The employee is occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, climb or bend. The employee must constantly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Also requires stepping up into commercial passenger vans as needed.
Positon Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position with core hours of work being Monday-Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm.
Travel
Driving throughout the metropolitan area or as needed using your personal vehicle and out of town travel as needed.
Required Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Three years of experience working as a trainer or in an employee capacity building role
- One year experience in human services related field
- Demonstrate understanding of, and ability to relate and work with the needs of adults with developmental disabilities and the staff who work with them.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Master’s Degree
- High level of understanding of the DMH and Service Coordination entities regulations and processes.
- Five years experience working as a trainer and in an employee capacity building role
- Three years experience in human services related field
- Two years experience in online training development
- Experience with SetWorks or similar case management system
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
Maintain certifications and CEUs in all areas taught in classes.
