Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Behavior Technician to join our Magsig Middle School team. This candidate will be responsible for providing skills instruction and behavior reduction protocols based upon the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis and Trauma Informed Practices to children with serious emotional disabilities in the school setting.
Essential Functions:
- Provide direct student instruction and support, and assist staff with implementation, in one-on-one and group settings utilizing a combination of intensive teaching and natural environment teaching arrangements.
- Follow prescribed behavior skills acquisition and behavior change protocols.
- Assist with preparing materials as necessary.
- Collect, record and summarize data on observable student behavior.
- Assist with skill acquisition and behavioral assessments.
- Collect data on all programming.
- Document interventions, progress data, session notes
- Assist with staff training of student’s individualized treatment and behavior change protocols, through direct teaching, modeling and fidelity checks.
- Immediately report to the teacher any student incidents/variances or complaints.
- Communicate with staff regarding student progress as instructed
- Collaborate with school teams and attend IEP meetings as necessary.
- Reinforce academic lessons and skills following instruction from teacher
- Participate in in-service programs and present in-service programs as assigned.
- Read and implement a BIP for a variety of students, sometimes without warning.
- Ability to remain professional and react quickly/efficiently in high-stress situations
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Collaborate with classroom teacher about individual student needs and requirements which may include IEP goals
- Follow teacher directions and expectations
- Maintain respect at all times for confidential information
- Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and parents
- Provides escort and mobility assistance to students when necessary.
- Maintain and improve professional competence by attending professional development
Experience
- Two year’s experience working with students with behavior challenges preferred
- Completion of 40 hours of Behavior Technician training, or willingness to complete the training
- Familiarity with Applied Behavior Analysis principles and techniques is preferred.
- Experience in behavioral health settings is beneficial.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team are required.
