What are the responsibilities and job description for the IT Technician position at Central Pennsylvania Blood Bank?
Summary:
Provide server, desktop and laptop PC hardware and software support to Central Pennsylvania Blood Bank internal staff, mobile collections staff, satellite locations and local area hospitals. Work includes configuration and software installation, Microsoft Office Products support, troubleshooting, set-up and relocation of PC’s, displays, printers, and other equipment. Work is performed in accordance with Federal and state rules, regulations, Blood Bank policies and procedures, and in compliance with direction provided by the Director of IT and Infrastructure.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide PC hardware and software support to CPBB staff and local area hospitals
- Research and recommend computer hardware and software to be purchased
- Establish, maintain and update hardware and software inventory, software license compliance, and written documentation of software configuration and installation processes
- Assist Manager of IT with network related duties to include supporting Local Area Networks and telecommunications installations, configurations, connectivity, monitoring, resolving and repair of network/IP related problems and centralized management and automation
- Maintain daily data back-up media library of BBCS software
- Maintain daily back-up media library of BBCS software
- Serve as the first point of contact to resolve service related problems consulting with internal and external customers and vendors
- Monitor the network backup, event and security logs as appropriate
- Perform routine network maintenance
- Set up, maintain and remove user network accounts as needed
- Maintain and manage mobile laptop units and barcode numbers
- Perform regular updates of servers, desktops and laptops utilizing industry standards and procedures
- Perform computer training for staff as needed
- Assist in the evaluation of new hardware and software products
- Perform “after hours” maintenance of computer systems when necessary and participate in on-call rotations
Knowledges, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of Windows Operating Systems
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to communicate with staff, member hospitals and the general public
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, member hospitals and the general public
- Knowledge of LANs and WANs
- Basic knowledge of AS400 BBCS system
- Ability to drive to member hospitals as needed
- Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must maintain a valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License.
