We are seeking a dedicated, positive, and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our small animal veterinary hospital in Claremont, CA. As a Veterinary Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to our animal patients.
```Duties```
- Assist veterinarian with examinations, surgeries, and other medical procedures
- Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed by veterinarian
- Perform laboratory tests, such as blood work and ultrasound guided urinalysis
- Take X-rays
- Prepare animals for surgery and monitor their anesthesia during procedures
- Provide post-operative care and monitor recovery
- Maintain accurate medical records
- Educate pet owners on proper animal care and medication administration
- Clean and maintain equipment, exam rooms, and kennels
- Train new employees
```Skills and Requirements```
To excel in this role, you should have the following skills:
- Able to life up to 50 lbs
- You will follow instructions and protocols set in the employee handbook
- Minimum of 3 year CONTINUOUS experience in a veterinary hospital setting (at one location)
- Dog handling: Experience in handling dogs of various sizes and temperaments
- Laboratory: Proficiency in performing laboratory tests (IDEXX) and maintaining of machines
- Kennel: Knowledge of kennel management practices, including cleaning and maintaining kennels
- Animal physiology: Understanding of animal anatomy and physiology
- Must be able to work Monday - Saturday (Schedules will vary)
- Animal restraint: Ability to safely restrain animals during examinations or procedures
- Aseptic technique: Knowledge of sterile techniques to maintain a clean surgical environment
- Ability to walk, bend, stand, and reach during the day
- Record keeping and maintaining logbooks
- Obtain vitals and weight of patients
- Assist veterinarians in rooms, with treatments, and procedures
- Catheter placement and venipuncture
- Rate based on experience
- Perform reception duties, including answering phones and patient intake/discharge
