Under general supervision, provides leadership to the college’s Career Center and Student Job Placement offices, develops and maintains employer relations function, assists students in the use of Career Planning and Placement Services; coordinates personnel functions related to the processing of student employees of the District; performs a variety of administrative/secretarial duties; exercises considerable initiative and judgment.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Contacts, builds and maintains relationships with a variety of local area employers in order to develop and secure employment positions for student clients; attends various business, chamber, and related meetings; makes presentations at community organizations and businesses to solicit work sites; develops employment sources and vocational training contacts; maintains an electronic resource file on employers. Conducts workshops and other small group and one-on-one sessions to provide job search and related assistance to student clients; provides job coaching services; presents workshops on campus and within the community as needed on career center services and programs. Identifies jobs in the community for student clients; follows-up on job leads from various resources to find employment for student clients; arranges recruiting dates; assists in coordination of annual job fair; develops and maintains virtual career and job search tools and social media pages.Facilitates job interviews with employers for student clients; conducts one-on-one interviews with clients to ensure job openings fit their career technical goals. Completes and processes a variety of employment, payroll, and verification forms, files, and records; disseminates information as required; follows up and communicates to assure timely completion of work evaluations and review for satisfactory progress. Investigates, reviews, evaluates, identifies, and monitors resource materials for Career Center Library; classifies and catalogs career materials according to the California Career Information System.Coordinates the office and administrative functions for the Career Center and Job Placement units. Reviews office activities, policies, systems, and procedures, and recommends changes. Sets up filing, recordkeeping and tracking systems (including short-term worker status), and trains others in their use. Coordinates the flow of information, including monitoring progress and deadlines of projects assigned to others. Prepares a variety of student personnel reports and related proposals; composes correspondence relating to career planning and placement. Establishes and maintains effective communication with a variety of students, staff, faculty, administrators, employer representatives, members of the community and acts as a department liaison with Alumni Affairs. Works with college programs to determine student employment needs following program completion. Coordinates and assigns the work, and participates in selection and training of short-term workers and student assistants in various program components. Performs related duties as assigned.

SPECIAL CONDITIONSWorking hours: Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM, with one rotating late shift (10:00 AM – 7:00 PM) per week, depending on the needs of the college. Testing will consist of two parts: Language Arts and General Math. All applicants will be notified via email of the testing day and time or to utilize the online self-scheduling feature. Previous passing test scores within one year will be applied and you will not need to retest.
