What are the responsibilities and job description for the Busser/Barback position at Chalet?
Summary
At Chalet, we pride ourselves on maintaining a welcoming and friendly dining experience for all of our customers at all three of our establishments and want your help to maintain it. As support staff on our team, you will utilize your strong interpersonal skills to assist the bartenders and servers in ensuring that our guests have an exceptional experience, including serving food, and beverages during busy times. You will use your attention to detail to keep the bar stocked, refresh garnishes, and clean by removing used dishes, refilling water glasses, and wiping down the bar so that each new guest has the same high-quality experience. The fast-paced and high-energy environment will challenge you as you play an important role in the smooth running of our establishments.
- Cleaning counters and furniture
- Cleaning glasses
- Running food and clearing plates
- Cleaning up the bar and table areas
- Taking out the trash and recycling throughout the service
- Cleaning spills and mopping behind the bar
- Unclogging sinks
- Keeping the bar fully stocked at all times
- Juicing citrus
- Preparing garnishes
- Refilling ice wells
- Replenishing the bar with glasses, napkins, etc.
- Replenishing cleaning rags at each bartender station
- Restocking liquor bottles and coolers
- Restocking the bar for the following shift
- Putting away shipments of liquor and beer
- Tracking opening and closing inventory levels
- Communicating with Managers when a customer is drinking from a personal bottle, getting exceptionally rowdy, acting inappropriately or when they suspect someone is underage
- Assist with both Opening and Closing cleaning tasks as needed
- Provide service to customers, finding requested items and bringing them to the customer’s table in an efficient and timely manner.
- Clean down tables between customers using dampened clothes and other supplies to ensure a hygienic dining environment.
- Replace used condiments, silverware, and linens so that each customer has what they need for their meal.
- Bring food and beverages to and from the kitchen, including pitching in to assist the Servers during busy shifts to reduce the customer wait time and ensure all meals are served hot and fresh.
- Offer customers complimentary items such as water as soon as the patrons sit down.
- Ensure that the stock area remains adequately stocked with clean linens, silverware, glassware, trays, dishes and more so there is no downtime when serving customers.
- Keep the dining area clean, which may include vacuuming, mopping, wiping down counters, and other duties as required.
- Maintain communication with the servers, hosts, chefs, and other staff members to ensure an efficient working relationship.

Required:

Able to move at least 50 pounds
Able to stand on your feet for at least 8 hours
Ability to juggle multiple tasks at once
Ability to remain calm under stressful situations
Knowledge of food safety
Knowledge of applicable Liquor laws
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Previous experience as a busser or other server assistant
Preferred: Excellent verbal communication skills
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience with customer service
