Job Title: Prevention Counselor
Location: Plattsburgh, NY
Salary: $19.00-$21.00
Job Summary: As a Prevention Counselor at Champlain Valley Family Center, you will be assigned to one of our local schools that has an opening. You will play a crucial role in fostering a safe and supportive environment for students through proactive intervention and community engagement. Your primary responsibility will be to provide assessments, individual counseling, and administration of evidence based curriculum in a class setting, aimed at preventing and addressing various social, emotional, and behavioral issues among students.
Responsibilities:
1. To provide substance abuse prevention services to individuals at assigned school, agency and community sites though individual, group and family counseling services and through dissemination of Information and materials regarding ATOD issues. To provide these services consistent with OASAS guidelines and CVFC Policies and Procedures
2. To provide assessment of individuals referred for services to evaluate the need for prevention services or the need for referral to appropriate services and to facilitate such a referral.
3. To provide ongoing counseling services for individuals in need of substance abuse prevention/intervention services.
4. To develop, implement and evaluate services plans and update for individuals receiving Prevention counseling services and to document progress of individuals receiving such services and maintain case records in a confidential manner.
5. Collaborate with school administration, staff and faculty concerning individual students and the development of school policies regarding substance abuse and information about ATOD issues.
6. Collaborate with family, parents, and community services providers.
7. Complete daily, weekly, monthly and yearly documentation of services and data within the required time frames as mandated by CVFC, OASAS and other funding sources. Documentation to include but not limited to, pre/post surveys, Witnys data entry and required prevention paperwork.
8. Facilitate Universal, Selective, and indicated prevention programming.
9. Keep updated on information, current research and materials regarding substance use behaviors, trends and issues to include strategies for prevention and treatment.
10. Attend, prepare and participate in monthly prevention staff meetings. Participate in agency committees and activities as needed.
11. Attend, prepare and participate in supervision meetings with Prevention services director.
12. Assist in identifying school and community needs, assist in the development and implementation of yearly prevention work plan and annual report.
13. Assist in developing prevention services to meet existing and changing needs of schools and the community through grant opportunities, program development and liaison with community committees and task force.
14. Participate in ongoing training for professional development.
Qualifications:
a) Credentialed Prevention Professional (CPP) or
b) Credentialed Prevention Specialist (CPS) or
c) Licensed, certified, or credentialed in a related discipline (CASAC, CPCG, CPHA, NYS Education Licensed or certified teacher, Health Educator, Guidance counselor, Rehabilitation counselor, Social worker, Licensed mental health practitioner, Registered Nurse, Physician, National board certified counselor or certified health education specialist
d) Bachelor’s degrees with 1 year of work experience and 1 year of counseling work experience.
