POSITION:
Early Childhood Special Education Classroom Teacher
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher
- Minimum two years’ experience in early childhood field preferred
- Michigan Teaching Certificate and any of the following: Endorsement in both Early childhood and Special education; Early Childhood (ZS); Major or Minor in early childhood growth education and a special education endorsement; Early Childhood General and Special Education (ZN) B-K
JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Develop compliant Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that promote measurable growth
- Implement IEPs, assess students’ performance, and track individual student progress
- Update IEPs throughout the school year to reflect students’ progress and goals
- Plan, organize, and assign activities that are specific to each student’s abilities
- Develop and analyze effectiveness of positive behavior intervention and support plans representative of the student’s communication, social skill, and sensory needs
- Analyze individual student and class progress to determine necessary instructional delivery adjustments
- Analyze progress reports to determine instructional effectiveness
- Supervise and mentor teacher assistants who work with students with disabilities
- Effectively communicate student progress, in oral and written formats, with school, parent and agency partners
- Maintain appropriate records
- Establish a positive relationship with teachers, parents and home providers, and communicate with them regularly about growth, progress, problems and successes.
- Serve as a resource to parents, providing information and/or contacts for support, assistance or knowledge of their child's disability.
- Involve families in community activities as appropriate
- Provide opportunity to enhance partnerships with school and agency personnel
- Participate in meetings, workshops, and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required of position
- Predictable, reliable, and punctual attendance
- Other responsibilities as assigned at the direction of the Principal
