POSITION:
Early Childhood Special Education Itinerant Teacher
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher
- Minimum two years’ experience in early childhood field preferred
- Michigan Teaching Certificate and any of the following: Endorsement in both Early childhood and Special education; Early Childhood (ZS); Major or Minor in early childhood growth education and a special education endorsement; Early Childhood General and Special Education (ZN) B-K
JOB FUNCTIONS:
General Plan Implementation
- Provide direct instruction, facilitate collaborative meetings and deliver professional development as written in students’ Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSP) or Individualized Education Plans (IEP).
- Identify, model, and implement adaptations and modifications to the classroom curriculum and physical setting which are embedded into the everyday activities of the general education classroom or home.
- Identify, model, and implement instructional strategies which are embedded into the everyday activities of the general education classroom or home.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, parents/guardians, related services providers, and other school staff to identify strategies and interventions to embed into the early childhood daily schedule and routines for student success.
- Work with general education teachers and families to create, model, and implement a behavioral support plan as needed.
- Coordinate and facilitate educational and behavioral strategies between home and school environments.
- Meet regularly with general education teachers, parents/guardians, related services providers, and other school staff to provide consultation on services and supports and to problem solve.
- Educate general education teachers and families through professional development on a variety of topics including the use of evidence-based practices and inclusive practices that lead to positive outcomes for children.
- Collect and maintain data as required to document progress towards mastery of IFSP/IEP goals and benchmarks and effectively communicate information to early childhood partners, parents and guardians.
- Establish a positive working relationship with students, school staff, and parents.
- Document direct instruction, collaborative meetings, and professional development sessions.
Case Management
- Create a consistent schedule outlining services for all students on the caseload after consultation & consideration of EC program needs.
- Attend and participate in IFSP, IEP and Eligibility meetings.
- Write IFSP/IEPs and lead IFSP/IEP meetings.
- Conduct formal and informal assessment activities ranging from classroom observations to administering standardized tests for the purpose of determining eligibility.
- Write reports for evaluations, interpret assessment information, and explain results to EC partners and parents and guardians.
Other
- Attend and participate in meetings and required professional development related to preschool.
- Perform other professional duties as assigned.
