Charleston Animal Society is a dedicated animal welfare organization committed to providing compassionate care and support to animals in need.
We are seeking a detail-oriented, compassionate, and organized Animal Intake and Admissions Specialist to join our team. This role includes working directly with the public, owners surrendering animals, food bank customers, and those who have lost their pets. You will complete animal admissions and intake assessments, provide excellent customer service and solve problems all day long.
Key Responsibilities:
- Welcome and assist individuals bringing animals into the shelter, ensuring a positive and supportive experience.
- Handle emotional or controversial situations with professionalism and compassion.
- Complete and maintain accurate records for each intake, entering information into the shelter database.
- Collect fees from customers.
- Assist customers with completing lost animal reports and Return to Owner (RTO) paperwork.
- Communicate effectively with the team to ensure proper animal placement and any specific animal needs.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized intake area in compliance with shelter protocols.
- Handle animals of varying temperaments with compassion and professionalism.
Requirements:
- Previous experience in animal care, shelter work, or a similar environment is preferred.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to empathize with individuals during sometimes difficult situations.
- Excellent customer service and problem-solving skills.
- Basic knowledge of animal behavior, health, and handling.
- Advanced experience using a computer, requires solid data entry skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Physical requirements include walking, standing and moving animals and equipment, including lifting up to 50 pounds as needed.
- Schedule will be Tuesday - Saturday OR Sunday - Thursday 8am - 6pm - over as needed.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
