JOB SUMMARY
Inspects, maintains and repairs reclaimed water systems, cross connection controls, and backflow prevention systems. Work includes ensuring compliance with Florida Department of Environmental Protection regulations, monitoring and inspecting reuse delivery systems, cross connection systems, backflow prevention systems, and repairing and maintaining reuse water supply systems.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Monitors, inspects, and repairs reuse systems including but not limited to, pumps, valves, transmission lines, backflow prevention devices, cross connection controls, and other associated equipment utilized in a wastewater reuse system.
- Conducts water quality inspections of reuse water delivery systems and performs routine system maintenance.
- Monitors and inspects residential, commercial, and industrial reuse units for cross connection controls.
- Inspects, tests, and repairs back flow prevention equipment.
- Ensures all systems and work activities are in compliance with Florida Department of Environmental Protection and National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) requirements and County Reuse and Cross Connection ordinances.
- Maintains records of work activities such as inspection reports and work orders.
- Participates in public relations programs with reuse customers and the general public.
- Provides exceptional customer assistance, problem-solving, and/or complaint resolution by all forms of communication.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
An equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two (2) years of experience in water and wastewater collection, treatment, or inspecting, maintaining, and repairing reclaimed water systems.
Licenses and/or Certificates:
- Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Must obtain and maintain the following licensures and certifications within two (2) years of position assignment:
- FWPCOA Backflow Tester
- FWPCOA Reclaimed Water Distribution Level “C”
- FWPCOA Backflow Repair Certification
- FWPCOA Reclaimed Water Field Inspector.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of departmental policies, plans, and procedures.
- Knowledge of modern office practices, plans, and procedures.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other job-related computer programs and software applications.
- Knowledge of methods and practices of typical water and wastewater collection systems and treatment facilities and of standards and normal operating procedures applicable to treatment.
- Knowledge of functions and mechanics of pumps and other plant mechanical equipment.
- Knowledge of ramifications of improper water treatment on community health and well-being.
- Knowledge of field sampling and testing procedures, and the ability to perform such testing accurately.
- Knowledge of chemistry and mathematics; ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Skill in effective communication, both orally and in writing.
- Skill in prioritizing and organizing work.
- Skill in the use of office equipment such as a computer, multi-line telephone system, scanner, fax machine, and copier.
- Ability to inspect machinery and other mechanical equipment in operation and to detect flaws and defects in operation.
- Ability to follow technical and complex written and oral instructions in conducting difficult procedures and tests.
- Ability to perform a variety of detailed testing functions, procedures and techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret information from meters and charts accurately.
- Ability to make recommendations and to use resourcefulness and tact in solving new problems.
- Ability to ascertain priorities and meet deadlines and objectives.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and reports.
- Ability to perform manual labor, sometimes under unfavorable weather conditions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Stooping, crouching, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, speaking, hearing, seeing up close, seeing far away, kneeling, reaching, pushing, talking, standing, climbing, finger movement, repetitive motions, depth perception. Frequent lifting of up to 25 pounds; occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work requires some exposure to environmental changes (e.g., outdoor weather and/or field conditions, warehouses, covered loading docks, garages, etc.) or irate customers, extreme noise, odors, heights and/or dust.
