The Accounting Project Manager will lead and manage finance-related projects, ensuring they are planned, executed, and completed within set timelines and budgets. This role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams across the organization to deliver projects successfully, meet client expectations, and uphold established project methodologies and quality standards. The Accounting Project Manager will play a key role in driving the financial success of each project and contributing to the overall financial health of the Consulting Services Team.


The Accounting Project Manager will be responsible for Project Management & Planning, Accounting, and Client Consulting activities as well as other tasks and duties outlined below. Responsibilities and Duties


Project Management & Planning:

  • Project Management
  • Define scope, schedule, budget, and resource allocation to ensure clear project direction and objectives.
  • Use Agile methodologies to manage projects, promoting flexibility, continuous improvement, and timely delivery of goals.
  • Oversee projects from micro (4-8 weeks), to short-term (3-6 months) to macro (6 months), ensuring timely execution and high-quality outcomes.
  • Track progress, evaluate performance, and provide regular status updates to stakeholders to maintain alignment and transparency.
  • Review project deliverables, including financial reports and analyses, to ensure accuracy and completeness before release.


Analysis:

  • Analyze project data to provide insights into performance and resource utilization.
  • Assess and adjust resource allocation as needed to optimize project efficiency.


    Risk Management:

    • Identify and evaluate potential risks impacting project timelines, budgets, and outcomes.
    • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans.


    Accounting

    • Create and manage project budgets, track expenses, forecast costs, and analyze budget variances to ensure financial project targets are met.
    • Prepare and manage financial reports, including project cost reports and resource summaries, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
    • Analyze project costs and financial metrics to identify savings, improve efficiency, and ensure project viability.
    • Provide financial insights and recommendations, with regular updates on project status, key metrics, and variances, to support decision-making and planning


    Client Consulting

    • Manage projects for multiple clients.
    • Consult with client leadership and provide staff training.
    • Act as the point of escalation and resolution for projects.


    Qualifications:

    Qualifications

    • BS/BA in Business, Accounting, or a similar field.
    • Minimum of 4 years of project management experience, including at least 2 years as an accounting project manager
    • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple short-term projects (4 weeks to 3 months) within professional services or client success roles.
    • Proficiency in Agile project management methodologies, with preferred experience in tools and practices such as Scrum, Kanban, and Lean.
    • Strong ability to create project dashboards, analyze data, and track key metrics.
      • Prior experience with non-profits, charter schools, or socially responsible organizations is preferred.


      You Should Know:

      • Microsoft Office 365, proficiency in Excel
      • Project Management software (Monday, MS Project, Trello, Zoho Project Management)
      • QuickBooks, Intacct, FundEZ, or similar accounting software

      • Delegation - Assign tasks to team members taking their knowledge and experience into account. Set clear expectations, hold them accountable, and follow up on the execution of work.

Gather and analyze information from various sources and individuals to fully understand a problem. Proactively anticipate needs and formulate action steps. Accurately summarize interpret and effectively communicate actions and rationale. 
      • Decision making - Take responsibility and demonstrate commitment to appropriate decisions promptly. Ensure that decisions are made based on policies, best practices, and organizational directives to solve emerging problems.
      • Consulting & Relationship Building - Leverages internal contacts and decision-makers to collaborate on new approaches.  Understand and consider client needs and interests, as well as the organization's strategic needs and priorities.

      Team Management - Manage the team's day-to-day deliverables and projects. Implement work processes, procedures, and systems. Prioritize competing deadlines, use judgment, and make decisions. Serve as an important communication conduit between internal and external stakeholders like the team, client, Client Lead, and Client Success.
