Examples of Duties
Under direct supervision, you
- Perform various commercial, industrial, and/or residential inspections of new and existing properties.
- Use your knowledge of electrical, plumbing, mechanical, or building inspections to ensure compliance with ordinances, approved plans, specifications, regulations, and building codes.
- Review plans, blueprints, and specifications to interpret and ensure compliance with building codes and regulations, including energy and disability access provisions.
- Advise contractors and other parties.
- Confer with and provide information regarding code requirements to developers, engineers, architects, property owners, and others as required.
- Address complaints or problems and investigate and take appropriate measures to ensure an expedient resolution.
- Document and maintain records of all inspections and any regulatory actions taken.
- Prepare reports, correspondence, and notices to correct code violations.
- May present cases in court for the prosecution of violators.
- Traverse construction sites and stoop, reach, squat, and climb.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED, and
- At least two (2) years’ experience in a construction-related trade; or
- Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Must possess or be able to obtain the Residential Combination Inspector (RCI) Certification within six (6) months of employment.
During emergencies and disasters affecting Chatham County, you may be required to report to work as part of a disaster operations team.
In accordance with the Department of Transportation, Commercial Driver's License (CDL) holders and those employed in safety-sensitive positions are subject to random drug testing.
Candidates with direct and relevant experience may receive an offer of up to 10% above the minimum salary that is posted, reflecting their exceptional qualifications.
