Summary:
The Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating, scheduling, deploying, and dispatching Care-a-Van and CARTA Go vehicles in a safe, efficient, and proactive approach. Treats operators, peers, and customers in a professional manner, and leads by example as the Operations Dispatcher is a representative of frontline leadership at CARTA.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Other duties may be assigned that are in keeping with the goals and objectives of CARTA.
1. Customer Service:
- Leads and directs Care-a-Van and CARTA Go Operators, accountable based on assigned workstation duties and tasks.
- Serves as central control for day-to-day vehicle communications, trip routing, and handling emergency situations.
- Diligently monitors Care-a-Van and CARTA Go vehicles to include on time performance, vehicle pull-outs, and properly documents rider no-shows.
- Meets with the Department Director on a regular basis to discuss KPI’s goals and objectives for the department and ensure that goals are being met or exceeded.
- Promotes a teamwork environment, and effective communication between all Dispatchers, Road Supervisors, and Operators.
- Coordinate problem resolution among Operators, Supervisors, and Public.
- Communicate clear direction and response over radio with operators and supervisors utilizing established radio codes.
- Influences positive employee morale and quality customer service.
- Monitors operator sign-in and sign-out utilizing computer aided dispatching and routing tools.
- Documents service disruption issues utilizing the dispatch log.
- Ensures accurate assignment of vehicles and Operators within multiple systems.
- Ability to follow Agency policies and procedures.
2. Compliance and Eligibility Verification:
- Follow all federal, state, and local transportation regulations, ensuring all ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) guidelines are met.
· Maintain accurate logs of customer interactions, including any updates or changes to their trip schedule.
3. Collaboration:
- Work closely with schedulers, reservationists, and eligibility team members to ensure seamless service delivery.
- Assist with scheduling production.
Qualifications:
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience:
· (2) years of related experience in a Paratransit or Demand Response environment preferred.
· Ability to work an assigned schedule, which may include weekends, nights, early mornings, and holidays.
· Possesses strong knowledge of the grater Chattanooga area.
· Knowledge of routing software systems such as Via and Trapeze preferred.
Skills:
- Strong verbal communication and active listening skills.
- Ability to multitask and handle a high volume of calls.
- Proficiency with computer software, including scheduling systems and data entry.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to remain calm and patient under pressure.
Work Environment:
- The position is typically based in an office environment with standard hours that may include weekends and Holidays.
- Ability to sit for extended periods and use a computer and phone system effectively.
