We are looking for a Camp Counselor to supervise young campers and make sure they learn and have fun. What do Camp Counselors do? The most important out of all Camp Counselor duties is to ensure campers are safe at all times. You’ll be responsible for overseeing their activities and ensuring they don’t get lost or hurt. The job duties of a Camp Counselor include following a set summer camp lesson plan ( may improvise as needed, educating children and mentoring teenagers that will be volunteering and setting up equipment. Being reliable and able to build good relationships with children are two essential traits of a Camp Counselor. You need to have knowledge around outdoor activities or be comfortable in an outdoor environment, like hiking. If you’re patient, energetic but strict when needed, we’d like to meet you.

Job Description
Experience the best of nature at Chattanooga Audubon Society Summer Camps at Audubon Acres. We’re seeking enthusiastic and caring counselors to provide a unique outdoor experience for young campers from ages 5 to 11. Counselors will need to be positive role models and help the campers have a safe and fun experience on our 130-acre Nature Sanctuary. The best way to ensure a great experience is to participate in all of the activities with the campers.
Primary Duties:
Supervise a group of children in the outdoors
Maintain a positive and nurturing environment throughout the day
Assess sights before exploration begins for potential hazards
Facilitate activities/exploration based on topics prepared
Make sure that campers and counselors are always well-hydrated
Provide First Aid and CPR when needed (training can be provided)
Job Requirements
Be at least 18 years old
Be enthusiastic and cheerful
Have some experience working with children (ie. babysitting/siblings)
Have a strong interest in working with young children
Be a team player and participate in all aspects of camp
Have reliable transportation to and from the job site
Training and Certifications
Training:
There will be several days of training to make sure that you understand and can manage safety
protocols with campers, as well as an understanding or the philosophy and activities of camp.
Certifications:
All counselors must attend and complete First Aid and CPR training prior to beginning work at camp.

This job is an outdoor and active position! This employee will be expected to hike up to 5 miles with groups of children each day and must be capable of staying focused during this time. This position also requires lifting and carrying supplies up to 20 lbs. and having good physical agility. This is an outdoor facility, so employees must be able to work in an area with allergens and maintain a high level of performance even in inclement weather, including but not limited to rain, snow, and high and low temperatures. When carrying out the duties of this position, the employee must be willing to be out in the elements (we work rain or shine) and exposed to allergens, yellow jackets, wasps, mosquitoes and other pests.

Responsibilities
- Plan outdoor activities for groups of campers
- Create weekly or daily schedules taking into account children’s age groups and interests
- Lead recreational and educational activities (such as swimming, hiking or crafting)
- Escort and oversee children
- Educate campers through games and explorations
- Set up and maintain equipment
- Resolve occasional fights between children and address behavioral issues
- Make sure all safety rules are followed
- Ensure camping site is clean and that campers don’t litter recreational areas or nature
- Perform first aid or take care of injuries as needed
- Keep accurate incident logs
Skills
- Proven experience as Camp Counselor or similar role working with children
- Familiarity with various outdoor activities
- Patient and reliable
- Organizational and communication skills
- A love for children
- Energetic and positive personality
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (strength and stamina to follow strenuous activities like hiking, running, crouching or carrying children)
- Being able to work in all weather (Rain, heat, Cold)
- First aid- and CPR-certified preferred
- High school diploma
