SUMMARY
The Park Assistant supports the daily operations and maintenance of public parks and recreational facilities. This role includes providing excellent customer service to park visitors, maintaining cleanliness and safety, assisting with events, and performing basic landscaping or custodial tasks as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Arrange accommodations for recreational vehicles and campers by telephone and/or in person
- Check campers in/out
- Collect fees for campsites
- Answer telephones and call back messages left and/or email
- Answer questions on various topic
- Accept and make money exchanges for payments as well as counting back cash
- Take deposits over the telephone with a online 3rd party credit card company. At time issue refunds as necessary
- Make copies of various paperwork to be inserted into site maps
- Responsible for keeping the office area neat and clean to include vacuuming, dusting, sterilizing office equipment and desk area and outside area around the office
- Replace copy paper in printer, fax machine and copiers
- Putting packets together for the campers
- Running daily report
- Calling campers when there are questions about their reservations
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent
- Ability to read a map
- Basic computer knowledge of the internet to look up various information for camper assistance
- Knowledge of fax machine
- Excellent customer service skills
- Strong commitment to maintain high quality standards
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals. Capable of writing routine reports and correspondence professionally
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtracts, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Physical/Mental Demands
- Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 20 lbs. for extended periods.
- Comfortable working in outdoor environments with exposure to sun, rain, and uneven terrain.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work setting for this position is a busy park office located within River County Park. While the majority of tasks are performed indoors, the Office Assistant may occasionally be required to step outside to assist visitors or maintain the immediate area surrounding the office. The environment includes:
- Proximity to outdoor park elements such as campgrounds, parking lots, and visitor areas
- Occasional exposure to seasonal weather conditions (heat, rain, wind) when assisting guests outside or maintaining the office entrance area
- Interaction with a diverse group of park visitors, including individuals, families, and large groups
- Fast-paced periods, especially during weekends, holidays, and peak camping season
- Collaborative work with park staff and management, though the role often requires working independently
- This position is seasonal, typically running from April through October, and is expected to work 16-24 hours per week, including some weekends and holidays depending on park activity. Including mornings, afternoon, evenings, and weekends.
