Kitchen/Custodian Support Staff
Job Focus: This position combining the tasks of an Assistant cook and a Custodian. The responsibilities of this position include daily meal preparation for the children enrolled based on the weekly menu. Cleaning the kitchen, classrooms, and restrooms. This position is full-time, Monday through Friday, 40 hours a week.
Responsibilities:
Kitchen:
- Prepare food according to the assigned menu.
- Prepare food for children, staff, and volunteers.
- Serve meals to classrooms.
- Transport food, dishes, and utensils to and from classrooms for each meal.
- Maintains a clean kitchen space, maintenance of the refrigerator, mop floors, keep cupboards in order, and empty garbage.
- Clean major and minor equipment, work surfaces, floors, and storage areas to ensure compliance with all health regulations and program standards.
- Conducts food inventory, and orders when needed.
- Ensure appropriate storage of food and non-food inventory on a daily and weekly basis.
- Participates in shopping, if necessary, for food and kitchen supplies.
- Maintain compliance with the Head Start Performance Standards, ECEAP Performance Standards, and WACs as indicated in the CDCSA Work Plans, Policies, and Procedures.
- Other responsibilities as assigned by the Program Manager/Executive Director.
Custodian:
- Wash dishes and maintain clean kitchen and bathrooms, i.e. including floors, cupboards, appliances, etc.
- Daily classroom cleaning, sweeping, vacuuming, washing surfaces, as assigned.
- Maintain required cleaning/bathroom supplies.
- Ensures facility maintenance as needed and reports maintenance needs
- Perform other general cleaning and janitorial duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Experience with preschoolers.
- Ability to communicate positively with children and families with varying cultural, educational, and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Experience and knowledge with food preparation.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- A valid Washington State Driver’s license, automobile liability insurance, and reliable transportation.
- Current Food Handler Permit.
- Fulfillment of all specified Health and Safety requirements.
- Ability to complete and pass TB test and pre-employment physical.
- Freedom from conviction of child abuse and neglect.
- Preference is given to former or current Head Start/Early Head Start/ECEAP parents.
- Physical capability in meeting demanding kitchen and serving schedules.
