POSITION SUMMARY
The Dirt Crew locates cables to ensure construction can occur without disrupting service to customers. Plows in cable and drops to provided new and improved service to customers. Performs preventative maintenance on company machinery to ensure the machinery remains in good working conditions and is available when needed. Requires heavy labor digging, lifting, working on ladders and teamwork. This position requires the employee to work out in the elements.
ESSENTIALS JOB FUNCTIONS
- Operates the cable locator.
- Reads staking sheets, flags or paints locations.
- Tracks buried cable.
- Operates a cable plow, a trenching machine, a boring unit, and reads maps.
- Fulfills locate requests in a timely manner, reading utility prints, contacting city entities, utility companies, homeowners, landlords and contractors.
- Confirms plant marked on maps is accurate and notifies Outside Plant Manager if changes or updates need to be made.
- Develops preventive vehicle maintenance checklists, performing maintenance work such as oil and filter changes and schedules outside maintenance.
- Maintains right-of-way and restores and cleans all disturbed surfaces when work is completed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of the communications industry and basic construction practices.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as: maps, blueprints, schematics, staking sheets and operating/maintenance instruction manuals.
- Ability to negotiate with property owners, city personnel, utility companies and contractors.
- Ability to complete work accurately under time constraints and deadlines.
- Must be able to sit/stand for long periods of time.
- Must have a clean driving record.
- Must be able to lift/carry at least 50 pounds.
- Must be able to work any shift assigned, which may include overtime, emergency callouts, weekends, and holidays.
- Customer service and customer relations skills.
- Problem solving, analytical and organizational skills.
- Essential functions include but are not limited to long periods of standing, kneeling, crawling, and climbing ladders.
- Knowledge of Company policies, procedures, products, and services.
- Possess a valid Oklahoma/Texas Driver's License in addition to a Safe Driving Record.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
· High School diploma or equivalent.
- 2-3 years of construction experience preferable.
