What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterinary Assistant position at Cherry Ridge Veterinary Clinic?
CRVC is looking for a Veterinary Assistant to care for animals and support our team of veterinarians and technicians. You’ll play an important role in bringing comfort to our furry patients and ensuring the smooth running of our facility. One of the most important Veterinary Assistant responsibilities is to ensure all areas are clean, for animals and humans alike. We’ll rely on you to assist the veterinarians and technicians in examinations and treatments. You need the ability to care for them properly – that’s one of the most important Vet Assistant job requirements. This includes knowledge of routine tasks, like feeding or bathing animals, but also readiness to help care for injured or scared animals that might occasionally lash out. Previous veterinary experience is preferred, however current veterinary technician students are encouraged to apply!
Responsibilities include but are not limited too:
- Executing proper cleaning protocols for cages and runs, isolation unit, deep cleaning clinic wide, examination tables and rooms
- Documenting daily and monthly tasks on task sheets
- Practicing humane restraint and assisting with examinations, procedures, radiographs, and blood draws
- Maintaining and stocking supplies
- Documenting walks and patient voids on patient treatment sheets
- Running clinic equipment such as: ultrasonic cleaner, steam autoclave, washer/dryer, warming devices, and more.
Skills
- Proven experience as a Veterinary Assistant or similar position working with animals
- Current or former pet ownership is an advantage
- Excellent communication skills
- Patient and caring personality
- Ability to follow instructions properly
- Comfortable being around animals
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the job
- High school diploma; a certificate from a Veterinary Assistant program is a plus
