Under limited supervision, performs a variety of clerical, secretarial and administrative duties in support of the Probate Court including: serving as liaison between public, attorneys, Personal Representatives and any interested parties and the Probate Judge or Associate Probate Judge; opening estates (receives, reviews and processes all documents to open estates, meets with family members to explains probate policies and procedures); handling judicial commitments (sets up files for emergency patients, schedules hearings and notifies appropriate persons of same); handling all transfers of venue for mental health patients (issues dismissals of patients and enters all commitment documents from mental health facilities); scanning estate inventories and sending bills to Personal Representatives; creating and sending to Court Administration the monthly Probate Court Summary Reports,; performing a variety of duties relative to guardianship/conservatorship cases, performing a variety of clerical/secretarial duties in support of the Probate Judge; receiving and responding to email inquiries and other routine requests for assistance. Must possess a high school diploma, at least four years of related office experience, a valid SC driver’s license and certification as a SC Notary Public. Must be detail-oriented and able to multitask, must be able to deal with members of the public in a professional manner, must have an advanced computer and software skill level, must be able to quickly learn the specialized Probate Court Case Management System (ICON) and must be able to understand and apply the SC Code of Laws, as well as decisions and rules of the SC Supreme Court with respect to the work of the Probate Court.
