SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Drivers work as members of a team to support participants and staff in Chewonki’s summer programs. Drivers work with staff and participants by providing transportation in a variety of situations including: airports, city centers, backcountry trips, and facilitating food resupplies. Drivers will travel on all types of roads while frequently pulling a canoe trailer. Drivers will spend a large portion of their time navigating on remote dirt roads in Northern Maine.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Driving Responsibilities
Safely operate 15 passenger vans while often towing canoe trailers, in a variety of conditions ranging from interstate highways to dirt roads and cities
Periodically serve as the “on-call” driver, ready to respond to any needs that may arise
Depart from campus at scheduled time
Completed required pre and post trip inspections
Alert the office team to any changes in pick up /drop off times
Exhibit professional communication with participants, their families, co-workers, and the public
Complete all necessary paperwork (i.e. incident reports, accident reports, etc.)
Work to honor and uphold the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and a lens of anti-racism in the best interest of participants, constituents, and staff across the organization
A willingness to work as a team member among the Outdoor Programs department and the greater Chewonki community by maintain a welcoming, positive, and supportive culture within the logistics hub center (Packout) for all users
Problem solve in collaboration with those that use Packout
Ensure Packout area is tidy by training all who use the space and through upkeep/maintenance of areas that have been forgotten or neglected
Community Responsibilities:
Strive to uphold and embody the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion, prioritizing the best interests of participants, constituents, and staff throughout the organization.
Work on the Chewonki campus and share meals with the community.
Take shared responsibility for risk management by using sound judgment, adhering to your skills and Chewonki protocols, and addressing or reporting any safety concerns.
Fulfill other duties as assigned.
PREREQUISITES/REQUISITES
Must be at least 21 years old.
Attend required onboarding training sessions, and driver training sessions (in-person/on campus).
Driver’s license approved by Chewonki’s insurance carrier.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to lift up to 50 lb at a time.
Must be able to work in an active, outdoor environment in a variety of weather conditions.

Position Start Date: June 23, 2025
Position End Date: August 16, 2025
Starting Salary: $16 -19/hr depending on experience
