SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Logistics Assistants are seasonal positions available during Chewonki’s summer season. Logistics Assistants (LA) work as members of a team to support participants and staff in Chewonki’s summer programs. LAs work with staff and participants through the preparation of food and equipment, transportation to and from the field, facilitating resupplies, and post-trip cleanup. LAs may also be assigned to other tasks as needed to support all of Chewonki’s summer programs.
Responsibilities are always varied and at times unpredictable for the LAs. A day at work can consist of anything from driving a trip of participants into the North Maine Woods to repairing broken tents and canoes, in addition to working alongside other staff and participants as they learn how to prepare for and wrap up from a trip.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Food and Equipment Management
Assist trip leaders in finding and pulling appropriate gear before each of their trips and as they return
Help trip leaders to return all of their gear post-trip in the appropriate manner
Perform routine equipment maintenance and repair
Monitor and restock food and equipment inventories
Maintain safe food handling standards
Packing Resupplies
Pack and organize food and equipment for resupplies
Periodically serve as the “on-call” staff member, ready to respond to any needs that may arise
Driving (if over 21 years old & approved to drive)
Safely operate 15 passenger vans while often towing canoe trailers in a variety of conditions, ranging from interstate highways to dirt roads
Maintain a welcoming, positive, and supportive culture within the food and gear center (Packout) for all users
Answer questions and problem solve in collaboration with those that use Packout
Ensure Packout area is tidy by training all who use the space and through upkeep/maintenance of areas that have been forgotten or neglected
PREREQUISITES/REQUISITES
Attend required onboarding and training sessions (in-person/on campus).
Driver’s license approved by Chewonki’s insurance carrier if over 21 and approved to drive
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to lift up to 50 lb at a time.
Must be able to work in an active, outdoor environment in a variety of weather conditions.
Attend Chewonki driver training
Attend required onboarding and training sessions
APPROXIMATE 2025 DATES AND SALARY RANGE
Position Start Date: June 13, 2025
Position End Date: August 17, 2025
Starting Salary: $16 -19/hr depending on experience
At this time, Chewonki is unable to provide housing for this seasonal position though there are a number of RV spots available.
