POSITION SUMMARY:
The Exhibit Support Specialist shall assist in the development of the 250th commemoration of the Revolutionary War exhibit at the National Museum of the US Army.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and implement all aspects of the Revolutionary War exhibit through:
- Artifact selection/acquisition
- Conservation
- Design
- Text development
- Fabrication
- Installation
- Perform work generally Monday – Friday, but anticipate occasional weekend and holiday work.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIRED:
- Master’s degree in history or museum studies with minimum of three (3) years working on exhibits or museum programming.
- Knowledge and experience with academic research in American History with emphasis on the American Revolution and writing of historical content that includes Chicago Manual of Style citations. Experience is usually developed through an advanced degree or equivalent on-the-job experience.
- Ability to perform the required services with little to no direction.
- Excellent public-speaking skills with ability to adapt presentations for diverse audiences.
- Ability to use computer programs and Microsoft Office suite (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal relations skills with the ability to interact effectively with others in the performance of assigned duties.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
- Excellent customer service and relationship-building skills.
- Knowledgeable in the activities/operations of a large museum.
- Knowledgeable in the safety practices related to exhibits/display pieces.
- Demonstrated ability to organize exhibits/displays.
- Proven ability to work effectively and positively with other professional staff in a highly collaborative environment.
- Excellent organization skills with ability to manage multiple project and priorities effectively.
Physical and Environmental Requirements:
- May be required to use computer screen for extensive periods of time.
- Occasional lifting of 15 to 20 lbs.
- Extended working hours and travel may be necessary.
