Purchasing Agent

Job Description

The Purchasing Agent will ensure smooth execution of quoting and purchasing materials while consistently communicating with internal teams and vendors. The ideal candidate will have a background in metal manufacturing procurement, be highly organized and have both a capacity and willingness to learn.

Responsibilities:      

•  Working with the purchasing manager to run the purchasing department including monitoring inventory levels
• Performing vendor research and selection to enhance profitability, reducing operating costs and boosting efficiency
•  Managing requests for quotes (RFQ) purchase orders, overseeing shipping schedules and maintaining purchase records
•  Responsible for keeping and filing records of these purchase orders, contracts, receipts, and transactions
• Maintaining cordial working relationships with vendors, ensuring vendors are following critical timelines and following up on
• purchase orders as necessary
• Overseeing on-site vendor equipment and programs including AIRGAS and MSC
• Work closely with suppliers and vendors to review cost proposals and negotiate prices and contracts with Purchasing Manager
• Working with warehouse staff to compare deliveries with purchase orders to identify discrepancies
• Keep up to date on market trends to ensure costs are consistent and to identify potential vendors
• Collaborate to run yearly inventory
•  Other duties as needed and assigned

Skills and Qualifications

• Required Skills:
  •  Excellent use of Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Outlook
  • Written and verbal communication
  • Highly organized with attention to detail
  • Ability to collaborate and work independently
  • Strong judgement and decision-making

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
