POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the CASA Program Manager, this position works within the mission and philosophy of the CASA program. The CASA Youth Advocate will provide case management and advocacy support to youth, placed out of county and hard-to-match youth, in accordance with the funding contract and program goals. This may include but is not limited to needs assessments, contact with case professionals, referrals to community resources, attendance at court hearings, Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings, Student Success Team (SST) and Child Family Team (CFT) meetings, follow-up contact, coaching, mentoring, and social service support to the client. This position requires some evenings and weekends.

PROGRAM SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Have a solid working knowledge of all the rules, regulations, and laws that apply to the CASA program.
  • Manage a caseload of 25-35 youth who are in the care of the court children aged 0-21.
  • Provide monthly in-person, out-of-county, or virtual visits as appropriate to assigned youth.
  • Produce court reports with appropriate case recommendations for each youth on assigned, court reports to be filed 10 days before each scheduled hearing.
  • May provide supervision, guidance, and support to CASA advocates who are assigned to children who are dependents of the San Joaquin County Juvenile Court, as needed.
  • May assume responsibility for case assessments, service plans, and reports for each Advocate, child, and family in the caseload.
  • Attend court hearings.
  • Maintain files and update program database and trackers daily and assist with any related statistical and/or evaluation components.
  • Complete Family Finding duties as needed to youth that fit the FF criteria.
  • Promote and maintain a sense of teamwork between CASA, other CAPC staff, Advocates, the Court, and other individuals relevant to the successful case management of each case.
  • Assist in the delivery of CASA recruitment/outreach, CASA preservice trainings, presentations and Continuing Education classes.
  • Network with other community agencies and participate when requested, in community and health fairs and other events designed to promote the CASA program.
  • Ability to identify the needs of youth, find creative solutions, welcome change, define problems, and evaluate risk, making appropriate decisions based on research, analysis, experience, and personal judgment in a timely manner.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education:
    Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with major course in social services or a closely related field, preferred.
  • Experience: Two years of relevant experience working with children and families or social work case management experience working with volunteers is desirable.
