What are the responsibilities and job description for the Street Outreach Program Coordinator position at Child and Family Charities?
General Responsibilities: Supervise Street Outreach Team in providing culturally responsive, trauma-informed supportive services to run away, homeless, and street youth to help them access immediate shelter, set and achieve goals that lead to safe and stable, housing; and move toward self-sufficiency. Locate, contact, and provide information, referrals, and services to run away, homeless and at-risk youth while also increasing community awareness and support.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor Degree in Social Work, Psychology, family Studies, or other related human service field
- A minimum of 4 years of experience providing direct services to youth
- Ability to work effectively with emotionally and behaviorally challenged youth. Clear evidence of trauma-informed care.
- Able to demonstrate cultural humility (street youth, pregnant/parenting teens, LGBTQ youth, etc)
- Demonstrated leadership skills. This position requires the ability to coordinate care with the internal work team, as well as with a variety of external community partners.
- Experience working with high risk and disadvantaged youth or families preferred
- Experience in the areas of crisis intervention & immediate needs assessments
- Assertive communication skills and immense level of comfort in cold calls/cold approaches
- Valid Driver’s License and Insurance
Duties and Responsibilities:
- To present a professional, courteous, efficient appearance to those parents, clients and members of the community who have contact with the agency
- To be a cooperative, effective team member, whose behavior and actions are supportive of coworkers and the administrative policies set forth by the agency
- To build a quality team of staff and volunteers who will locate, contact, and provide information, referrals, and services to homeless youth, you at risk of homelessness, and runaways, age 12-20
- To mobilize the community in a coordinated community response to eliminate youth homelessness by meeting with a minimum of three area businesses each month for a outreach presentation and material distribution
- To initiate “Project Safe Zone” in the Tri-County area by partnering with law enforcement and local businesses to be a temporary safe haven for youth while the business initiate4s an agreed upon crisis response protocol to move youth from the street to safe shelter. Begin protocol discussion and development with a minimum of one local business each month
- To build positive supportive relationships with local law enforcement notifying the appropriate jurisdiction when you plan to do street outreach in their area.
