Child Development Resources (CDR) is dedicated to providing a fair and supportive work environment where employees feel valued and inspired. We are seeking a dynamic Director of Human Resources to develop and execute human resource strategies that align with CDR’s mission and goals.

In this role, you will deliver comprehensive human resource services that promote a culture of engagement, fairness, and continuous improvement. This position is based in our Williamsburg location, reports directly to the Executive Director, and is part of the Senior Leadership team.

The Director of Human Resources is responsible for creating and implementing human resource initiatives that support the organization’s goals and uphold our values. As a generalist, you are solely responsible for recruitment, employee relations, compensation, benefits, compliance, and performance management.

Education Requirements:
A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Management, or a related field is required. A Master’s degree is preferred.
Experience Requirements: A minimum of 7 years of progressive human resource experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership role.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with attention to detail and proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Leadership and team-building skills, focused on creating a positive work environment.
  • Ability to adapt to the evolving needs of the agency and its workforce.
  • Thorough knowledge of employment laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement human resource strategies that support the agency’s mission and promote workforce diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Lead recruitment efforts to attract, hire, and retain top talent, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and workforce diversity objectives.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to management and employees, offering guidance on human resource matters, conflict resolution, and performance management.
  • Oversee compensation and benefits programs to ensure competitiveness and equity, conducting regular reviews and benchmarking.
  • Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, implementing updates as necessary.
  • Drive employee engagement and retention initiatives, including recognition programs and employee feedback initiatives.
  • Provide mentorship and leadership to foster a collaborative, high-performance culture.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute policies, processes, and training to support HR compliance and workforce development.
  • Manage human resource programs, including compensation, benefits, disciplinary procedures, and training and development.
  • Lead compliance efforts by regularly reviewing policies and practices, and recommending updates to maintain the highest standards.
  • Manage employee disciplinary actions with integrity, offering guidance and coaching to employees, supervisors, and senior leaders as needed.
  • Facilitate the annual performance evaluation process, including the Board of Directors’ evaluation of the Executive Director.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of personnel activities, including hiring, promotions, transfers, terminations, attendance, discipline, and performance evaluations.
  • Effectively communicate human resource policy implications to a variety of audiences, including the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and staff.
  • Manage benefit plans and the annual open enrollment process.
