This role's primary purpose is to ensure that the revenue generating systems, processes, and workflows are performing accurately, efficiently, and at optimal levels. This position provides direct supervision and people leadership to a team of revenue staff, revenue billing staff and revenue project manager. This position performs data analysis and reporting, with a focus on trends, irregularities/issues, areas for further investigation, and/or growth opportunities. The Revenue Manager works closely with other departments on workflows and issue resolutions to ensure timely and accurate processing of our DMH billing.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a people leader, performing supervisory duties including training, developing, coaching, and evaluating department staff; managing performance, conducts performance evaluation and takes disciplinary action as needed.
  • Manages the billing function workflows within the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system and associated/integrated systems. Assigns workload to Revenue staff; monitors and evaluates results to ensure timely and accurate billing. Ensures timely reporting by Revenue staff and compiling for all billing areas/types, which includes billing status, claims submission/status, denials, unbilled claims, and potential write-offs.
  • Manages projects and oversees project-based staff for all projects related to the Revenue function.
  • Responsible for creation and distribution of weekly and monthly reports, including Department of Mental Health (DMH) dashboards for productivity, billing, and analytical needs, and assists with County or State reporting requirements. If reports are completed by Revenue staff, responsible for monitoring and checking results to ensure accuracy of reports.
  • Collaborates with team members across departments, including Programs, Intake, Quality Assurance, Information Systems, and others as it relates to workflows that impact DMH billing. Provides reports of issues to other department/program people leaders that are impacting timely and/or accurate billing submission.
  • Manages the development and implementation of workflows, policies and procedures, training materials/delivery, and department standards related to DMH billing requirements.
  • Maintains positive external contacts related to program, including reporting to funding sources, community resources, collaborative partners, all issues related to IBHIS, etc.
  • Maintains current with LA County and California State billing requirements, changes to Electronic Health Record system, IBHIS, EDI and other billing/claiming related tools and techniques. Performs duties accurately to ensure 100% compliance with DMH County and State requirements/standards.
  • Provides timely status reports to the Director of Information Systems, including outcomes and/or areas needing attention or improvement with the Revenue department. Promptly notifies the Director of Information Systems for any problems related to the EHR system, IBHIS, EDI and/or matters that impact timely or accurate billing.

  • Maintains confidentiality in matters of agency operations, personnel, and clients.

  • Other related duties as assigned

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • Five years' experience working with Electronic Health Record Systems and other systems related to Behavioral Health electronic data billing and claiming, including IBHIS, processing of EDI transactions, and working with third-party systems/interfaces.
  • Demonstrated experience in a manager or supervisor role, with strong skills involving teamwork/team building to accomplish a common goal.
  • Exceptional computer literacy including Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and MS Teams.
  • Three years' experience with L.A. County DMH IBHIS.
  • Strong experience with California Medi-Cal and Other Health Coverage billing and claiming requirements.
  • Project Management experience related to Revenue Management techniques and methodologies.
  • Prior experience in a role performing data analysis and reporting.
  • Strong team, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment required.
