What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manager of Facilities Maintenance position at Children's National Hospital?
This position is responsible for managing maintenance services and repairs, planning, assigning and supervision of work in the areas of plumbing, mechanical, general building maintenance, carpentry, painting, critical space testing and other structures of the medical complex. Estimate time and materials required for jobs. Supervise / order materials, supplies and inventories. Prepare plans and sketches. Ability to read and understand plans and specifications prepared by architects and engineers. Quality control and inspections of maintenance task and projects upon completion for compliance to work requests. Perform related duties as required. Responsible for assisting in the maintenance of all policies and procedures for all relevant areas within the facilities, training staff as appropriate, and ensuring all staff are in compliance with regulatory requirements. This position will provide expertise and support to all engineering specialists as needed. The position will consult with the following standards : Joint Commission, DC Department of Health, EPA, DCRA, OSHA, Architects, Engineers, Construction Managers, Space Management, International codes & standards, and other regulatory agencies.
Qualifications : Minimum Education
High School Diploma or GED Comments / Major : HS Diploma or trade school & extensive knowledge of building codes (Required)
Minimum Work Experience
10 years Experience in facility maintenance / carpentry or other related industry experience. (Required)
Required Skills / Knowledge
Project management, construction, carpentry, mechanical, plumbing, critical space testing and building maintenance supervision.

- Manage minor to medium construction projects.
- Responsible for negotiating contracts with vendors for various services including maintenance, service, and / or support contracts.
- Competitively bid out contracts to ensure best value.
- Verify that all workmanship meets highest standards. Take appropriate action to resolve discrepancies.
- Provide budget and status update reports to Director of Facililty.
