What are the responsibilities and job description for the Staff Pediatric Perfusionist position at Children's of Alabama?
Due to increasing demands inside/outside the operating room we are adding a 5th position, and we are seeking a skilled and dedicated Perfusionist to join our dynamic team. This classification collegially cooperates with other departments working to optimize patient care. Responsible for conducting Cardio-Pulmonary Bypass and its adjunct procedures that are associated in the cardiovascular operating rooms. Participates in the care of the neonatal - adult congenital patient populations. Participates in the initiation, rounding and consultation of Cardiac ECMO services. Acts as preceptor and assists in the didactic training of ECMO and Ventricular Assist Devices. Participates in the preceptorship of students from accredited perfusion schools during their rotations at Children’s Hospital of Alabama. Responds to the unique need of the neonatal, pediatric, adolescent patients, as the need arises
Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor heart-lung machines during cardiac surgeries.
- Manage blood flow, oxygenation, and circulation during surgical procedures.
- Collaborate closely with cardiothoracic surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals.
- Maintain and troubleshoot perfusion equipment.
- Monitor patient vital signs and adjust equipment as necessary.
- Participate in continuing education to stay current with advancements in perfusion technology and techniques.
- ECMO responsibilities include initiation, termination, daily rounding, education, and collaboration with the ECMO department
- Ventricular assist device (HeartMate III, centrimag/pedimag) setup, priming, rounding, and multi-disciplinary collaboration with CVICU intensivist and cardiac surgeons.
Qualifications
- New graduate to 5 years' experience preferred
- Applicants must be board eligible or certified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP).
