Summer Encounters Camper Advocate (Seasonal)
The Camper Advocate provides support and advocacy to campers assigned by the Director of Summer Encounters. The Camper Advocate is responsible for ensuring that the assigned campers have inclusive support, accommodations, and modifications during camp routines. The Camper Advocate works as a key member of the leadership team to facilitate a meaningful, positive, and inclusive camp experience for all.
Key Responsibilities:
- Camper Support: Assist in addressing campers' emotional, social, and physical needs throughout the camp day, ensuring they are comfortable and engaged in activities.
- Parent Liaison: Effectively communicate with parents, providing updates on their child’s camp experience and addressing any concerns or questions.
- Advocacy: Advocate for the unique needs of each camper, ensuring their safety, comfort, and inclusion in camp activities.
- Behavioral Support: Work with counselors to encourage positive behavior and manage challenges, using conflict resolution techniques to maintain a healthy camp environment.
- Safety Oversight: Ensure campers adhere to safety guidelines during all activities. Report and handle any incidents or injuries to our Nurse.
- Program Support: Work collaboratively with instructors and counselors to plan, implement, and facilitate fun and inclusive activities.
- Feedback and Reporting: Collect feedback from campers, parents, and staff about the camp experience and report insights to the Leadership team to improve future programming.
Qualifications:
Strong Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with campers, parents, and staff in a friendly and professional manner.
- Experience with Children: Previous experience working with children in a camp, educational, or recreational setting is preferred.
- Patience and Empathy: A caring, empathetic attitude with an understanding of children's unique needs in a group environment.
- Teamwork: Strong ability to collaborate with other camp staff, including counselors, directors, and specialists.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience in a day camp, childcare, or youth program.
- Background in child development, education, or a related field.
- Passion for creating enriching, fun, and supportive experiences for children.
Work Environment:
The position takes place at Christ Church Episcopal School, with both outdoor and indoor activity spaces.
- Requires supervising and engaging with children throughout the camp day, including during activities, meals, and breaks.
Compensation:
This is a seasonal hourly position with pay based on experience. The Summer Encounters season is May 26th - August 1st, with camp being closed June 30-July 4th. This position is based on a 35-40 hour week, with approximate hours being Monday - Friday 10:30am - 4:30pm, with additional Early Care and Late Stay hours assigned on a rotating basis.
