Christ School seeks a detail-oriented and collaborative accountant to join a small, mission-driven Business Office. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), this position supports the day-to-day financial operations and contributes to accurate and timely reporting. With a lean two-person department, the accountant will be involved in all facets of the accounting cycle and play a meaningful role in maintaining and strengthening the school’s financial processes.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting Operations
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
- Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations
- Ensure timely and accurate payment of vendor invoices
- Oversee student billing and monitor payment activity
- Process payroll in coordination with HR
- Manage and reconcile school credit card transactions, including communication with employees to ensure accurate documentation and coding
Financial Reporting & Compliance
- Support the CFO with internal reporting and reconciliations
- Ensure data accuracy and consistency across systems
- Assist with the annual audit and preparation of financial schedules
- Adhere to GAAP standards and internal financial policies
Process Improvement
- Participate in reviewing workflows for efficiency and clarity
- Assist in documenting accounting procedures and internal controls
- Provide support during system enhancements or transitions
Administrative Support
- Maintain vendor records, W-9s, and insurance certificates
- Prepare annual 1099s and assist with records management
- Support the CFO in administrative tasks as needed
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
- 3–5 years of relevant accounting experience
- Working knowledge of accounting principles and financial systems
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general ledger software
- Experience with Blackbaud, Veracross, or similar systems is a plus
