Qualifications
- Has previous experience in musical theater production
- Holds a degree, certificate, or substantial professional experience in a related field, such as theater, performing arts, or fine arts education
- Has experience working effectively with children, ideally in a school or educational theater setting
- Has a strong understanding of story and character development, stage direction, blocking, and performance techniques
- Has an good understanding of technical aspects of theater, including set design, props, costumes, lighting, sound, and stage management
- Has exceptional leadership skills including communication, planning, organization, teamwork, problem-solving, and adaptability
- Has ability to work collaboratively, both giving and taking direction, and adapt in a creative environment with both adults and students
- Patience, enthusiasm, and developmental understanding for working with young performers
- Ability to assist in choreography or stage movement
- Basic music skills such as maintaining beat, rhythm, and lyric timing
SALARY: $24/hour
Responsibilities
- Assist the director in all aspects show production
- Collaborate with the director and production team to create a cohesive artistic vision of show and educationally-minded experience for students
- Provide constructive feedback and guidance to the production team concerning performance and technical aspects, as well as overall interpretation of the script in alignment with the educational purpose and artistic vision of the production
- Help plan and oversee rehearsals, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness both on and off stage, keeping students focused and on task
- Help maintain organization and communication between the production team, cast, and crew
- Assist with scheduling and coordination of production logistics, including the sourcing and acquisition of production materials
- Lead rehearsals in the director's absence, using age and experience-level appropriate instructional methods for students
- Foster a positive educational experience for students, staff, and families
- Work with students both in groups and individually on character development, memorization, and performance techniques as needed
- Support the educational, social, emotional, and physical needs of students throughout the production process, encouraging and guiding young performers, helping them build competence and confidence
- Assist in dress rehearsals and final performances, ensuring students understand their responsibilities and stay focused on task to allow smooth transitions
- Help backstage during performances, assisting in stage and student management
- Support post-show cleanup and organization.
