SUMMARY: The Addiction Counselor serves as a compassionate guide, offering invaluable support to individuals on their journey through substance dependency. Their role is to provide individual counseling, nurturing guidance to patients facing challenges with drug or alcohol addiction, and group counseling to empower women with knowledge and strategies to enhance the recovery process. They engage with both inpatient and outpatient clients, fostering an environment of healing and growth towards achieving sobriety.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Individual Counseling: Conduct assessments, develop treatment plans, and provide ongoing counseling and support to clients struggling with substance dependency.
- Group Therapy: Facilitate therapeutic group sessions to foster peer support, enhance coping skills, and promote a sense of community among clients.
- Family Education and Support: Educate and empower families to understand addiction, navigate challenges, and actively participate in the recovery process of their loved ones.
- Treatment Planning and Case Management: Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized treatment plans, monitor progress, and adjust interventions as needed.
- Crisis Intervention: Provide immediate support and intervention during crises, relapses, or emergencies, ensuring the safety and well-being of clients.
- Referral and Advocacy: Coordinate referrals to external resources, advocate for clients' needs, and facilitate access to additional support services and community resources.
- Documentation and Compliance: Maintain accurate and confidential client records, adhere to ethical and legal standards, and comply with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
- Professional Development: Stay updated on best practices, emerging trends, and advancements in addiction counseling through ongoing training, supervision, and professional development activities.
- Cultivating Therapeutic Relationships: Establish and maintain trusting, therapeutic relationships with clients, demonstrating empathy, respect, and nonjudgmental support.
- Community Engagement: Represent Chrysalis House within the community, raise awareness about addiction-related issues, and collaborate with local stakeholders to promote prevention and recovery initiatives.
EDUCATION/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Certification in Addiction Counseling (e.g., Certified Addiction Counselor, Certified Substance Abuse Counselor) Required
- Associates or Bachelors degree in appropriate field
- Experience working in addiction counseling or related field
- Strong clinical assessment, counseling, and crisis intervention skills
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork abilities
- Commitment to cultural competence, diversity, and inclusivity in service delivery
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards
- Must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must demonstrate understanding of special treatment needs of women substance abusers in a residential treatment setting and show evidence of empathy, sensitivity, and maturity

STANDARD REQUIREMENTS:
- Must maintain professional Licensure and/or certification throughout employment with this agency
- Exercises sound judgment and integrity in problem solving and decision-making, ensuring such decisions are based on solid facts.
- Must be able to work flexible work schedule including evenings and weekends on occasion
- Must be able to work as a team member and cooperatively with county, community, and family programs
- Must have reliable means of transportation and a valid driver’s license
- Must maintain agency, coworker, and client confidentiality and abide by the Data Privacy Act and the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act
- Is skilled in identifying and solving bottlenecks by solving problems before they become critical
- Promotes quality values throughout the organization by being knowledgeable about the standards and requirements in the field and implementing measures to avoid a recurrence of errors
- Excels in the strategic repositioning of resources, when necessary, in a changing environment by effectively assessing and deploying employee resources, strengths and competencies.
- Clean driving record and valid driver’s license

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; sit and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Most days, employees will be working a portion of the day outside in temperatures ranging from 20F with wind chill to 95F.
