PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Orchestra Director shall be responsible for the instruction program for all string students
and coordinates all campus orchestra activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Certification Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Music Education
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or equivalent
- Valid Texas Driver’s License
- Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee.
Special Knowledge and Skills
- Fluent working knowledge of all string instruments, teaching pedagogy, and ensemble rehearsal strategies
- Strong public relations skills, a firm understanding of the balance between student string instruction and public performance, and a willingness to continue development of mastery level teaching strategies
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience
- Orchestral experience preferred
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

- Coordinate all instruction and activities for string students and programs
- Maintain orchestra inventory, budget, maintenance, and general operations of program
- Support all District policies regarding welfare and education of orchestra students
- Coordinate the efforts of the orchestra booster organization
- Integrate campus orchestra program into all campus programs and initiatives
- Prepare string students for successful participation in UIL / TMEA sponsored events
- Participate in professional development regarding teaching competencies as identified by District and campus staff
- Participate actively in professional organizations that foster and support quality music education
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Maintain a consistent professional demeanor and appearance
- Ensure compliance with the Texas Educator’s Code of Ethics
- Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervision and evaluation of District personnel is not a requirement of this position; however, the supervision of students is required. Direct the work of instructional aide(s).

- Office equipment – persona computer, printer, calculator, multi-line telephone, software programs and peripherals, copier, fax, and other equipment applicable to position.
- Communication equipment – radio communication equipment, cellular telephone
