What We Offer
This is an on-call position, which means it is a part-time, hourly role. This position will work at least 10 hours per week and no more than 39 hours per week. The starting pay for this position is set at $22.15 per hour and is eligible to enroll in the City and County of Denver's 457b retirement plan. This position is not eligible for other additional benefits. On-call positions may have routine or variable work schedules. Although these positions are flexible, they are year-round, and instructors will typically work 20-30 hours per week. Core hours for programming typically occur Monday through Friday, 2 : 00 p.m.-7 : 00 p.m. During the summer months (mid-June to mid-August), core hours for programming shift earlier and are typically 11 : 00 a.m -5 : 00 p.m. Typical program hours align with local DPS school schedules.
Location
In this position you can expect to work on site at the Tennis Facilities in multiple recreation centers around the City and County of Denver.

Denver Parks and Recreation is looking to hire certified tennis instructors to manage adult and youth programs and lessons within the tennis program while ensuring quality customer service. We utilize a variety of tennis courts and recreation centers throughout the metro Denver area, offering thousands of participants the experience of a lifetime! Our instructors are an important part of providing high-quality service to both teams and individuals of a wide range of skill levels.
We are looking for tennis enthusiasts who are passionate about playing and growing the game of tennis and pickleball ranging from grassroots level to competitive. Instruction is primarily based on group tennis lessons focused on providing fundamental based training while creating a fun and challenging atmosphere. Tennis programs are offered at the following parks : Bear Valley, Berkeley, Bible, City, Eisenhower, Greenway, Huston, Lindsley, Lowry, Northfield Athletic Complex, Observatory, and Washington Park.
Job duties and responsibilities of these positions include, but are not limited to, the following :
- Plan and facilitate tennis programs and activities at courts throughout Denver for spring, summer, and fall
- Program group adult and youth tennis lessons, coaching a junior tennis team and other types of events
- Coordinate and instruct youth in skills clinics, camps, and other tennis activities
- Participate in additional instruction opportunities, such as overseeing tournaments and leading tennis programs
- Motivate participants through positive language and encouragement of good sportsmanship
- Commit to participant safety and willingness to enforce program rules
Tennis Instructors begin the season with a Coaches Workshop that provides our coaches with expanded information on tennis instruction and prepares Tennis Professionals for individual and group lesson planning, as well as season expectations. Programs run from the now through the Fall with weekly programs running 8 : 00 a.m. - 12 : 00 p.m., leagues running 6 : 00 p.m. - 8 : 00 p.m., and additional weekend programming running Saturday 8 : 00 a.m. - 12 : 00 p.m. The bulk of our programming occurs in the summer (June - August).

Required Minimum Qualifications

Education requirement : Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
Experience Requirement : Two (2) years of experience (paid or volunteer) as an instructor in an organized specialized recreation program with certification in specialized area as required.
Education / Experience Equivalency : Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirement.
License / Certifications : Certification in the specialized field as required.
Requires certification in CPR / First Aid prior to completion of probation period.
Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
