The Department of Community Services, Community Assistance (Section 8) Division, is hiring for an Urban Rehabilitation Inspector I. The position is responsible for conducting inspections, identifies deficiencies, outlines corrective actions and ensures that property owners comply with provisions of the Housing Quality Standards of the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher, Moderate Rehabilitation, Homeownership, and new construction programs; obtains for database, comparable rental data through professional management firms, landlords, agents, publications, internet listings and newspapers; maintains database and determines rents charged for participants are fair and equitable; provides customer services to landlords and Section 8 families; and performs other related duties as needed.
Special Working Requirements: Personal vehicle required to drive to various locations to inspect housing units. Ability to climb stairs and step ladder, ability to kneel to inspect and ensure that deficiencies have been corrected. May need to crawl to check crawl space beneath structure.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Two (2) years of experience in inspecting or supervising building construction work.
Applicable Skills:
- Knowledge of materials, work practices and processes used in construction and maintenance of structures and appurtenances.
- Knowledge of Federal, State and local laws, codes, ordinances and standards relating to construction
- Knowledge of building and related codes and ordinances of the City and County of Honolulu.
- Ability to detect property deficiencies and make sound recommendations for improvement.
- Ability to interpret and apply plans and specifications, building and related codes.
- Ability to understand laws, rules and regulations pertaining to construction and rehabilitation.
LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
Possession of a valid driver's license (type 3/automobile), prior to appointment.
