Parks and Recreation, Park Maintenance is looking for a Full-Time Seasonal Park Ranger to join our exciting team of outdoor enthusiasts.WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR: A successful park ranger is curious, observant, physically active and interacts in a professional, calm and patient manner with a variety of park users. Interest in the natural and cultural history of Southeast Alaska and caring about the stewardship of public land are desirable. The ability to work independently and with a variety of coworkers is essential. The ranger prepares clear, accurate and concise written reports as required. The ranger observes, reports and mitigates hazards in park areas. The ranger participates in training, safety and informational meetings, communicates with the public in a courteous and helpful manner, provides information about rules, regulations, route finding and interpretation of the cultural and natural history of park areas. WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION: The work schedule is typically 1:00 PM- 9:00 PM, Wednesday- Sunday. Work schedule includes weekends, evenings and holidays. The Parks Maintenance facility is located at 802 Front Street in downtown Douglas.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Under the general direction of the Lead Park Ranger, the Park Ranger position will patrol municipally managed recreation areas, parking areas and trails by foot, mountain bike, light trucks, and small boats to enforce ordinances and regulations by issuing verbal or written warnings. This position may issue written citations when authorized. This position may request assistance from law enforcement agencies or other emergency services when necessary. Conducts investigations of illegal activities, collects evidence and documents findings. Patrols city parkland to ensure visitors and campers are complying with applicable rules and regulations. May trespass unruly campers and remove abandoned property as authorized by law. Cooperates with various CBJ and non-profit social services to assist campers in need. This position will also perform general maintenance in parks, trails and facilities. The ranger may operate a variety of power machinery and tools including chainsaws and brushers. Performs minor field repairs to power tools and equipment as required. Picks up trash, paints, cleans facilities, and performs minor repairs of park fixtures and equipment. The summer season is busy with high demand from residents, seasonal workers, tourists and commercial operators for the use of parking, recreation areas and trails. The rangers work cooperatively with Parks and Landscape Maintenance, Juneau Police Department, Juneau Community Service Officers, Docks and Harbors and other CBJ staff on different projects. We also work with Trail Mix crews, Youth Employment in Parks (YEP) crews and volunteers on trail and park projects.
