The City of Alameda is seeking an experienced, strategic, and visionary Finance Director to lead its financial operations and ensure long-term fiscal health. This executive role is vital to maintaining the City's strong financial position, overseeing budget development, financial reporting, and resource management as Alameda continues to grow. The Finance Director works closely with the City Manager, Assistant City Manager, City Council, elected City Auditor and Treasurer, and department heads to provide sound financial guidance, ensuring responsible stewardship of public funds and sustainable financial policies. As a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Finance Director plays a pivotal role in shaping financial strategies, implementing best practices, and fostering transparency and innovation in financial management.
Leading a team of 18 professionals, the Finance Director oversees critical functions, including budget development, revenue forecasting, purchasing, payroll, accounts payable, and debt administration. Alameda operates on a two-year budget cycle, with an annual budget of $594.6 million for FY 2023-25, including a $140.9 million General Fund. The Finance Department is instrumental in maximizing resources to deliver high-quality services while maintaining strong reserves to navigate economic uncertainties. Recent technology upgrades, including Tyler Munis and OpenGov software, have enhanced efficiency and financial transparency. Additionally, the Finance Director will spearhead citywide financial initiatives such as the Municipal Fiscal Resilience Plan and long-term financial forecasting, ensuring Alameda remains well-positioned for future growth and stability.
