The Position:
The purpose of this position is to provide an individual with exposure to operational, field and administrative functions of the Parks & Recreation Department.
Please note that this position is for a Summer internship May-August 2025.
- Assist management with special work projects from conception through implementation.
- Conduct in-depth research studies and/or surveys specific to municipal government programs and services.
- Assist in the preparation of statistical analysis and report findings or research studies to supervisor or department head.
- Assist with the development of written and oral presentations.
- Attend meetings, and participate in program events, field, operations, and administrative tasks.
Education & Experience
Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
- High School diploma or equivalent, with at least 24 hours of completed coursework at an accredited college or university, and current enrollment in a Parks, Recreation, Sports, Event Management, or similar degree program at an accredited college or university.
- No prior relevant work experience is required.
Certification and Other Requirements
Valid Texas Class C Drivers License.
Reading
Intermediate - Ability to read papers, periodicals, journals, manuals, dictionaries, thesauruses, and encyclopedias. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in high school up to college. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.
Math
Intermediate - Ability to deal with system of real numbers; practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios/proportions and measurement. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in high school up to college. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.
Writing
Intermediate - Ability to write reports, prepare business letters, expositions, and summaries with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, using all parts of speech. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in high school up to college. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.
Managerial
Receives directions: The employee normally performs the duty assignment after receiving general instructions as to methods, procedures, and desired end results with some discretion when making selections among a few, easily identifiable choices. Assignment is reviewed upon completion.
Complexity
Work involves choices of action within limits set by standard practices and procedures. Professional judgment is required to apply the proper course of action.
