What are the responsibilities and job description for the Adaptive Recreation Intern position at City of Bellevue?
The City of Bellevue Parks & Community Services (PCS) Adaptive Recreation Intern will work primarily within the adaptive recreation program at Highland Community Center. This position will also be exposed to policy and procedure discussions with the overarching citywide ADA and Title VII requirements for access and non-discrimination. This position will gain valuable hands-on experiences and insight into how community recreation activities and programming can include and support all who choose to participate. Specific programs within the department that this position will gain experience include adaptive recreation day camps for children with intellectual and physical disabilities, adult adaptive recreation, as well as programs for people with physical disabilities.

Must be student enrolled in college or a graduate program. This is a paid position that works 30 – 35 hours during the week Spring and/or Summer Quarters and holidays. The maximum length of the internship is six (6) months.
- Create an outreach and marketing plan to promote adaptive recreation programs in a diverse Bellevue community.
- Work alongside the Program Coordinator training and assisting staff with intake and modification plans for department-wide recreation programs.
- Plan and lead the adaptive summer day camp.
- Set up and facilitate adaptive recreation classes for adults.
Supervision Received and Exercised:
- Works under the general supervision of the Highland Community Center Community Services Supervisor.
- No formal supervisory responsibilities.
- May lead a project or program as assigned.

Education, Experience, and Other Requirements
- Must be enrolled and attending a two- or four-year college or university or graduated from a four-year college or university and enrolled in a graduate program.
- A student’s targeted degree, field of interest, or graduate training should relate to the project or assignment the student is responsible for.
- Previous work experience preferred.
- Experience using the PC, including word processing and spreadsheet software.
- Database experience preferred.
