Schedule : This position normally works a regular weekday daytime shift.
Supervision Exercised : None
Supervision Received : Work under the direction of, and responsible to, the Accounting Manager or designated representative. Direct supervision is minimal concerning day-to-day activities. Completed work is reviewed primarily in terms of results achieved and reconciliations. Incumbent is required to use initiative and good judgment in planning and executing routine work.
General Purpose of the Position : The primary purpose of this position is to perform the accounting functions as described below, in addition to those items that may arise in the day-to-day operations of the city's accounting operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Thorough understanding of the general ledger in order to be able to understand and create journal entries.
- Accounts Payable - processes from requisition, to purchase order, to invoicing and vendor payment.
- Maintaining W-9s and generating 1099s.
- Reconciliation of all bank accounts except the city's 'operating' account, including those of the Bradenton Police Department.
- All balancing, reporting, and deposits associated with city-wide cashiering operations.
- Verify and document seizure money from the Bradenton Police Department Property and Evidence.
- Monthly maintenance of escrow-like accounts.
- Liaison between Accounting and the city's revenue-generating departments (Utility Billing, Permitting, Local Business Tax) including performance of operations such as adjustments, refunds, bank filings, returned items.
- Continual documentation and revision of responsibilities and procedures.
- Ability to train employees in end-user accounting functions.
- Ability to enter and manipulate data within Microsoft Excel as well as within the city's financial management system (Munis).
- Additional duties as may be required including abandoned property letters, payment of sales taxes, Garage (Fleet Department) reporting, etc.
Skills and Physical Abilities Required :
Computer Equipment and Software Requirement : Experience with personal computers, Microsoft Office (including Excel), and Tyler Technologies' Munis, the city's enterprise software.
Education and Experience Required : High school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by college-level courses in Accounting. Governmental accounting experience preferred. One (1) to three (3) years of experience in accounting and / or bookkeeping is required.
Environmental Conditions : Inside in an office environment.
