NATURE OF WORK
The State Licensed Funshine Summer Day Camp Program accommodates up to 125 children ages 6 to 14 years old. The camp runs daily Monday through Friday for approximately 8 weeks during the summer. Various training days prior to the start of camp are also required to meet state standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Responsible for planning and coordinating daily camp activities. Knowledge of group whereabouts at ALL times.
- Keep daily attendance, maintain necessary records to uphold state licensing guidelines and provide a safe and secure environment. Check identification of those picking up campers.
- Comply with state licensing requirements under the direction of the Assistant Recreation Coordinator.
- Observe children and monitor the security of the building at all times to ensure the children's health and safety; provide general first aid and distribute medication to children as directed.
- Provide communication, direction and guidance to the Group Leaders and Group Aides to motivate and support.
- Assist in training of camp staff and attend trainings.
- Daily interaction and communication with parents is essential.
- The position requires appropriate disciplinary techniques are used in addressing both staff and participants and all incidents are documented. Encourage and support positive behavior.
- The position involves transporting children in a 12 passenger van.
- Reports directly to the Assistant Youth Coordinator and works collaboratively with the other Site Director(s).
- Assure the site is kept clean throughout the day, maintains supplies/equipment and conducts weekly staff meetings.
- Regular communication with 27 J staff.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND FORMAL TRAINING
All requirements are set by the state child care licensing division. The candidate must be at least 21 years of age. A four year degree in a recreation, education or other human service related field OR six months verifiable experience in a licensed daycare setting in addition to two years of college. A copy of college transcripts and letter of verification must be presented at time of interview or included with application. Current certification in CPR and First Aid certifications must be obtained by or show proof of class registration before May 1, 2022. Candidate must also pass background check. Must be available for staff training the last week of May with full availability for camp June 3rd through July 26th. Additional pre-camp dates will be required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates should have a desire and be comfortable working with youth ages 6-14 years old, in a team environment and be able to express expectations confidently. The candidate should be inventive, imaginative and able to actively supervise staff, communicate well and relate to children. Certification and experience in Medication Administration and van driver training preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The candidate must have sufficient strength, agility, stamina and flexibility to move or carry up to 50 pounds, stand, crouch, kneel, bend and stoop while assisting children for long periods of time. The candidate must have adequate hearing and vision in order to discriminate between different sounds, objects, people and colors at near and far distances. Position also requires active participation in swim related activities.
