Position Details
The Public Works Trainee performs entry-level and semi-skilled work in the operation, maintenance, and repair of the City’s park, utility, or street systems under the direction of Divisional Superintendents and Crew Leads.
This is a limited-duration, full-time, union-benefited position lasting up to a maximum of two years. The role provides training and experience to develop the skills necessary to become a fully qualified Maintenance Worker. Each trainee position will terminate at the end of two years unless the individual is hired into a Maintenance Worker position before that time.

What you'll bring to help you be successful
- A high school diploma or GED
- Minimum of (1) one-year experience in construction or maintenance in a similar environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must possess a valid Driver’s License with the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License within 9 months.
- A background or interest in local government work serving the community.
- An interest in developing what you do best and a commitment to valuing each colleague for their unique perspectives.
