General Definition of Work
Performs work responsible for the maintenance of city parks, facilities and grounds for the City of Cape Girardeau.
Essential Functions
● Performs mowing, trimming and other lawn care of facilities and parks including turf care and chemical application.
● Maintains and repairs equipment.
● Performs preventive maintenance of city parks and facilities.
● Provides oversight of part time staff when necessary.
● Performs landscaping and snow removal. Removes dead and hazardous trees.
● Removes trash.
● Cleans restrooms and shelters.
● Available to respond and work weekends and holidays, as needed. Participates in a weekend rotation to provide coverage of trash collection and shelter and bathroom cleaning.
● Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
● Qualified applicants must possess a valid driver’s license.
● Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position.
Salary per hour $15.57, plus a generous benefit package.
- Bi-weekly pay periods.
- Twelve paid holidays per year.
- 96 hours of vacation – accrued throughout the year.
- 96 hours of sick leave – accrued throughout the year.
- 2 days of personal leave per fiscal year. Must be employed on July 1 of the fiscal year to receive.
- City paid monthly premiums for health and dental insurance – Employee only.
- City paid monthly life insurance for employee only (1 times annual salary up to $50,000).
- Optional group term life insurance purchased at employee’s expense.
- Optional vision insurance purchased at employee’s expense.
- Voluntary deferred compensation plan – not matched by the City.

- Total compensation value (Hourly starting rate plus benefits value) for this position is $23.97 hourly/$49,858 yearly.
