The Aquatics Coordinator is responsible for the year-round oversight of aquatics operations at Wirz Park Pool and associated recreation programs and rental facilities. This role includes the supervision of aquatics personnel, including lifeguards, swim instructors, and independent instructors, ensuring a safe and engaging environment for all patrons. The Aquatics Coordinator will also coordinate program scheduling, facility maintenance, and staff training while fostering positive community relationships. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Recreation Programs and Events Supervisor and requires the ability to operate independently within established policies and procedures. Additional related duties may be assigned as necessary.

A.   Employees Supervised: The Aquatics Coordinator supervises the Lifeguard staff, swim instructors, and independent instructors. Responsibilities include overseeing their training, scheduling, performance evaluations, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations and operational standards.
B.  Interrelationships/Contacts: The Aquatics Coordinator works closely with the Public Works department, vendors, customers, and community members.Supervises and coordinates swimming pool operations and pool maintenance, maintaining appropriate records and files (75%)
1.1 Organizes and coordinates the pool schedule, including open swim, lap swim, swim clubs, recreation programming, birthday parties, summer camps, and contracted rental programs.
1.2 Teaches or coordinates Lifeguard Certification classes for interested applicants.
1.3 Interviews lifeguard applicants and makes selection recommendations.
1.4 Schedules lifeguards to ensure adequate coverage of Wirz Pool during operating hours.
1.5 Conducts monthly in-service training for lifeguard staff.
1.6 Assists guests with the rental of lap lanes and facilities at Wirz Park, both in person and using recreation software.
1.7 Actively solicits and evaluates proposed new aquatic programming from independent instructors to assess potential benefits to facility programming.
1.8 Maintains inventory of aquatics operating supplies; replaces or upgrades equipment as necessary; ensures facilities are properly maintained and safe.
1.9 Maintains records and logs related to state operating licenses, pool operations, recreation programs, and  park programming.
1.10 Coordinates with the Parks and Facilities Superintendent regarding maintenance needs for the pool and    park; conducts quarterly inspections to ensure proper working order.
1.11Performs related tasks as required.
 
Additional Duties and Responsibilities (25%)
  1. Has general oversight of Wirz Park facilities including building, pavilions, fields, courts and trails. 
  2. Assist guests with rentals of Wirz Park facilities including giving tours and answering questions regarding rentals. 
  3. Coordinates park usage with Recreation Programs and Events Supervisor for City events, City-sponsored events, or Rental events at Wirz Park. 
  4. Coordinate with Recreation Programs and Events Supervisor to schedule Recreation Programming in Wirz Park Building and/or in Wirz Park.
  5. Coordinates facility usage with Camp supervisor for any break camps
  6. Reports any park or facilities issues to Parks Maintenance.
  7. Assists the Recreation Division with non-aquatic related special events as needed.
  8. Adheres to laws, regulations, and policies of the City and of the assigned Department; follows instructions provided by the Department Director or their designee.
  9. Participates in department meetings, staff meetings, and other related activities.
  10. Completes required or assigned training in a timely manner and applies acquired knowledge and skills.
  11. Follows retention requirements of public records pursuant to public records laws and the Florida Department of State, General Records Schedule, Chapter 119, Florida Statutes, as amended.
 
Emergency Management Role 
  1. Participates as a member of the City staff as required to take action in the event of an emergency.
  2. Acts in the assigned role to support the City in disaster preparation and/or disaster recovery efforts as described in the City of Casselberry Emergency Management Plan, supervisor, or designee.  As a member of the City Administrative staff may be responsible for safeguarding the records of the City Manager in the event of an emergency.

  1. Education and Training:   A High School Diploma or G.E.D. is required.  
  2. Experience:  A minimum of one (1) year experience in aquatics, recreation or related field is required.   A comparable combination of education and experience may be considered.
  3. Certificates, Licenses and/or Registrations Required: Candidates must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License. A Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check will be conducted to evaluate the applicant's driving history. Additionally, the following certifications are required: Certified Pool Operator (CPO), Water Safety Instructor (WSI), Lifeguard Instructor (LGI), and CPR/AED Certification.
  4. Security Clearance: Florida Department of Law Enforcement background clearance is required.
  5. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of local, state and federal regulations affecting work.
  • Knowledge of departmental rules, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the methods involved in organizing, conducting, and promoting recreation activities.
  • Knowledge of facilities and materials required to carry out aquatic programs.
  • Knowledge of marketing and promotion management associated with service-related activities.
  • Knowledge of safety guidelines for aquatic facilities and recreational activities.
  • Knowledge of facility standards and proper maintenance as related to the job duties and assigned tasks.
  • Knowledge in the planning, organizing and implementation of specialty art areas.
  • Ability (intermediate to advanced level) to utilize Microsoft Office Suite, e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point and Publisher.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with stressful conditions in a calm and professional manner.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

A.    Work Environment: This position performs the duties primarily in an office setting, however, while setting up and attending events work is performed in a field setting.  The noise level in the office work environment is moderate; the noise level in the field setting is loud.  While in the field setting, this position is also frequently exposed to various weather conditions.  
B.       Physical Demands: The primary functions require prolonged periods of time sitting at a computer, and using hands to operate computer, handle or feel.  Occasionally this position will stand, walk, bend and drive.  In addition, this position may be required to occasionally lift and carry up to one hundred (100) pounds with or without assistance of another person or utilization of lifting equipment.  This position is regularly required to use vision, speech, and hearing, with or without assistive devices.
C.     Equipment/Tools and Technology Used: This position utilizes the following tools and equipment while performing the duties of the job: Computer, phone, headset, Multi-Function Printer (MFP), audio recording equipment, industrial paper shredder, and city vehicle.  
D.    Employee Infection/Exposure Risk Classification:   Category III: Employee performs tasks that involve no exposure to blood, body fluids or Other Potentially Infectious Materials (OPIM).  Persons who perform these duties are not called upon as part of their employment to perform or assist in emergency medical care or first aid, or to be potentially exposed in some other way.  Tasks that involve handling of implements or utensils, use of public or shared bathroom facilities or telephones, and personal contact such as handshaking are Category III tasks.
