What are the responsibilities and job description for the Extreme Kids Summer Staff position at City of Chaska?
The Extreme Kids Summer Staff is responsible for assisting with the implementation, supervision and leadership of age-appropriate, safe summer recreational activities for school-age children.
- Supervises and participates with groups of youth in a variety of indoor and outdoor activities including crafts, games, socialization, health/wellness and field trips.
- Serves as a positive role model and leader while interacting with youth.
- Provides open and clear and open communication to parents and other staff daily. Proactively discusses behavioral issues with supervisor and parents.
- Assists with the set-up and clean-up of program activities.
- Carries out the goals, theme and schedule of the program to ensure the youth receive a consistent, high quality experience.
- Ensures open, timely and productive communication with staff and parents regarding youth behavior.
- Performs all other related duties as requested or assigned.
Education and Experience
- Experience working with youth ages 6 – 12
- Experience supervising youth and implementing youth activities
- Must be at least 16 years of age
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Certification in First Aid, CPR, AED and Blood Borne Pathogens or willingness to complete certification within 30 days of hire; training will be provided for those not certified
- Ability to communicate with youth, staff and parents in a positive and responsive manner
- Demonstrated cultural awareness and sensitivity
- Organizational skills and ability to work independently
- Desire to work with youth of this age cohort, and the ability to swim and participate in activities on a daily basis
- Flexibility and sound work ethic
Other Requirements
- Ability to commit to the entire 10-week program, and paid staff training of approximately 10-15 hours prior to the start of the program
